Picture of the finished glazed piece. A textured plate with a horse embossed in the center. It’s a pretty good sized platter. Well suited for serving cake and cookies on. Ok it would do just a well with crackers and cheese, or a nice fruit plate.
The ends of the plate as you can see, curled a bit in the drying process.
Not quite the flat plate I started out to get. It justs adds to the character of the piece.
I do have to admit, I did not spend all day in the pottery. We glazed up a few so we can fire the klin again and I baked a cake. Have you ever heard of Herman. Well he is a sour dough starter that you keep in the refrigerator growing. You feed him every five days, and you use him to make wonderful cakes, breads and cookies. Today we made cake.
As my 40 days of pottery is coming to an end. We are busy firing up all that has been made and glazing them. We will not get them all glazed and posted before the end. However you can see that we were pretty busy and have accomplished quite a bit in the 40 days.
Today was another good day, started out with a good workout this morning. Then home to play in the pottery studio. Missing my Granddaughter already. Put her on a plane home to Kentucky. Was nice having her around for awhile.
Threw a cake plate today. Started out with 5 pounds of clay, so it ended up pretty good size.
My girlfriend Mimi came over and tried her hand at glazing a few pieces of pottery. She is pretty anxious to see how they turn out.
Always room for another cookie plate around the house. Our dinner table has become a piece of art in itself. No two pieces are the same. Each person has their own setting with their own special style. I love when company comes to dinner and the table it decorated with pottery. It’s not just for decoration at our house though. Every piece is used and used again. I feel the pride of being able to use my art for practical as well as the WOW factor in the house.
The yard is also full of reject pieces of pottery. We have a pottery garden, using it as planters when we get one with a large enough crack. The succulents in the garden area love growing in them. We build pottery bird baths by stacking broken pieces together and using silicone to hold them. Brightly glazed pottery adorns our gates and welcomes visitors to our home.
Day five of my 40 day pottery challenge. The day started out a little busy. We had ordered a new mattress for our king size bed. It was delivered the yesterday, we opened it and let it reinflate itself. Being a memory foam mattress they squish them into one large box. You remove it from the box and let it regain it’s shape.
This morning we removed our old mattress and the two of us juggled the two mattresses around and now we have the new one on the bed and they old memory foam mattress on the flour in the living room.
Did I happen to mention that our bedroom and living room are both on the second flour.
Quite the process to go through for a new bed.
Then it was off to the pottery studio to see what I could get done before heading off to class at 11 oclock. I did by the way get a textured plate made. I hand threw a slab by flipping it over and over, stretching the clay untill it reached the desired thickness and shape. At this point I rolled a texture into it using sample sheets of wall paper. Then using a mold I formed the desired shape. Let it get leather hard during the day and viola!! I have a plate.
