Spring is Here

I was awaken by the sound of birds singing this morning. It’s funny how  people have such a completely differant reaction to this event. I was telling my neighbor how excited I was too hear the birds again. Her response was how annoyed she was at all the noise they were making.

DeerLake Weekly Letter, Easter

Often times I like to say, “Cheaper Than a Heart Attack”. We splurge on things that are good for our health. On other things, we try to be as thrifty as we can. I think vacations with exercise are a great idea. I might be getting too old but walking across Europe sounds like fun. Wonder if I’ll need to use GPS.

On another note, I (Becca) have been reading a bit about dancing and how good-it-is for you. We all know the benefits of staying active, but did you hear that research shows that dancing also might keep you from getting dementia. Steven is not one to go out dancing, but I do believe I wrote earlier that he splurges on things that keep him healthy. Whether you can get someone to go dancing with you or not, just get up and do it. It’s just as good to turn on your own music and get up ~N~ dance.

Today was our first day that hit 70 degrees, how nice. All the tree trimming is done, next comes 5 cords of firewood. Oh my aching back. I’ve made more pottery pieces so we can try out our new glaze. Twelve new mugs and many other pottery pieces to paint. Lately we have been learning how to make coil-pots. I like the challenge of making larger pottery pieces, and coil-pots can get really big. This year, so far, Becca has been making some pretty large pottery with coils. Next week we will make a page so you can see all of Becca’s new pottery, pretty amazing stuff!

Our new seeds for this year’s garden arrived today. Oh fun, a much bigger better garden going-in this year.

Ever hear of Nematodes?, There’s new ways to battle garden bugs and pests, it’s great that we never need to spray poison on the food we grow again.

The first got up at half past eight
While the other two were still in dream state.
Figured they’d not wake till it was late.

On the night before he was crucified,
Jesus entered. He passed me by.
He wept and prayed in silence there.

The egg was empty.
Surely it must be Jeremy’s she thought, and of course, he did not understand her instructions.
If only she had not forgotten to phone his parents.

I know there is a Promised Land

without pain, sin, or pride,

and there I’ll walk with Jesus—

eternally by His side.

Leave Behind

Worked more on my leave behind mugs today. I tried stamping a couple didn’t seem to work the first time around, the clay was too thin on the bottoms of the mugs. The stamp wants to go right through. Have an idea of making standout design. Not sure how that will go. Maybe the glaze stamp will end up being the way to go.

Leave Behind

I have decided to make coffee mugs for my leave behind. I ordered pottery stamps with my logo on them and will stamp each mug.

Today I started making the mugs. I threw six, they are drying and tomorrow they will be dry enough to put the handles on and maybe stamp each one without causing any misshaping. You have to catch the clay at just the right time for stamping and handling. They call it leather hard. Still wet enough to attach the handle, but sturdy enough to touch without causing any problems.

I also printed out my blurb book, needed to replace two of the images because they were blurry. When I took the screen shots of the computer for my responsive spred, I did not save it at a high enough resolution.

Reprinted my finished business card also.

Blurb Book

I have finished with the layout of my Blurb book now. Saved all to pdf files for printing. I did not get all I had hoped into the book. However I feel it is a pretty good representation of my work. Created the Cover for the book also. Not sure what all it needs. I did not put in any copyright info or authoring information. My name and logo appear on the cover.

Did a little adusting on my business cards today. I made the logo smaller giving the card a much cleaner look. I am ready to order my cards now. My resume is done and I worked on making the first of my ten leave behind mugs today. Worked on the book cover for writing 101.

DeerLake Weekly Letter, Girls in My Circle

Howdy everyone, Easter is getting closer and with it – the coming of spring and a feeling of renewed life. The local garden and feed store sent out the word today that the baby chicks were in already. As Easter draws near we are reminded of the new beginning which we have been given through our Lord dying on the cross for us. It is fitting that spring and Easter go hand in hand. There are so many things to look forward to such as warm summer days, summer vacations, green pastures and long lazy days on the beach, or anywhere else you relax.
Spring 2016 is a great time to make plans to see the family, spring clean the house and get ready for the fun summer days ahead.

I spent my early years in Rancho Cordova California. I hold fond memories for that California life. It was nicely paved streets, sidewalks with gutters and good schools. We played basketball, baseball, foursquare, tether ball, dodge ball, football, and many more kinds of ball games. Our street was quiet enough that we could play right out in the middle of the street. I spent four years in little league baseball, oh man that was fun; had my name in the local newspaper many-a-time. Always felt bad that I did not keep those paper clipping to show my kids and grand kids. My first year in baseball we came in last place out of ten teams, we were the worst team ever. The next three years I was the pitcher, and each year we got a little-bit better till my last year when we got first place. Man, after that last game I was feeling on top of the world.

Becca and I had a nice day-out last weekend, looking for windmills. Traveling the back roads of Montana, we enjoyed views of the Mission Mountains and the Clark Fork river. The plan was to stop by the National Bison Range in Moiese Montana. It was a little early in the year for that though; the gates to the upper portion of the range do not open until the middle of May. I suppose that most of the bison are getting ready to calf now, so they keep them closed-off to the public; it was a great day anyway, always good to be out and about taking pictures with friends. We found old beat-up windmills and some barns long forgotten. The skies were blue and the temperatures had that perfect springtime feel. We’ll be off to Glacier Park early tomorrow morning on another photo shoot. They have lifted a few of the barricades on the roads and we are now allowed to drive up a bit farther on the Going-To-The-Sun-Road. Maybe we will catch-site of a few baby animals in the park tomorrow.

What we see outside our window. The Robins have arrived in force, more than we ever remember seeing around here. Geese also just arrived, seen a few hundred on the way home from town today. I should really get out the cameras and get some pictures. Snow is melting, the chickens are looking nice again, laying eggs like crazy. Just about all of our 2,000 foot driveway is back to gravel now, hurray! There is still 2 feet of packed-snow all along the sides. It always takes a bit more time to melt off all the piles of snow. Soon, I will be able to park my plow and change-out the studded tires for some quiet-driving tires. We’re not complaining, we know snow is the price we pay for living in such a wonderful place. Without the snowpack in the Rockie Mountains, we would not be blessed with the clear rivers and springs that grace our quiet little valley.

I believe that a great many of you are enjoying the beginning of spring now. I can imagine the crocuses popping up and the new buds on all the trees. Our daughter in Kentucky even has had to mow the grass.

Last week, Becca told you about making a music video for her school assignment.
Well we now have the finished product added to our first page this week (Girls In My Circle Video).
Thanks to the girls at the health club for joining in on making this fun new video.
