DeerLake Weekly Letter, Happy New Year, and the New Year List

Everyday I feed and water our chickens. In the winter, their water freezes solid overnight. After many years of struggling with getting the frozen water out of their water bowl, I figured it out. I use a Silicone Bread Pan. No kidding. With just one hand I can dump the ice out, every time. It is so sweeeeeet. Wanted to pass along this handy tip.

Our small town always has lots to do for New Years. Many places will have live-music, some will have dancing. Quite the downtown shindig. Always a pleasant crowd of friendly people. I kind of like our friendly little town, I’ve always appreciated that violence seldom comes around. Perhaps you have passed thru here on your way to Glacier National Park, Kalispell MT.

This is a nice part of this US of A. It’s something to see, my favorite time of year would be September 29th. Take a drive to Many Glacier and areas north and south of there, fall-colors are as fine as you have ever seen, with mountains like you have never seen.
No kidding, no hiking necessary to see so much beauty and enjoy the splendor of one of the best places on earth, in my opinion.

Well it’s New Years 2016, who would of thought we would make it this long. I can remember being in school and thinking that if we made it this far, things would have to be so different, you know like ‘The Jetsons’. Not so!!! Yes we have come along way with technology, however a lot of things are the same. We haven’t made it into space yet, and I thought we would be there by now.

And every year around New Years..
I go and take a look.

Christmas Thought –

Mix hugs, kisses, smiles and love until consistent.
Blend in holiday cheer, peace on earth, Christmas spirits and good will toward men.
Use the mixture to fill a large, warm heart, where it can be stored for a lifetime, (it never goes bad !).
Serve as desired under mistletoe, sprinkled liberally with special Christmas Snowflakes.
It is especially good when accompanied by Christmas Songs and family get-togethers.

Serve-warm to one and all.

DeerLake Weekly Letter, Christmas Time is Here.

Merry Christmas Everyone. Becca and I wish everyone health and happiness.

Today we made bowls, mugs, and plates out of clay. I washed up good as usual, all the way up to my elbows. Then I’m sittin here noticing how much clay is on my pants and shirt. Oh, and what’s this, clay in my hair. Not sure how it got to the top of my head. Maybe I can blame it on my nice puppy dog. Maybe I was swatting a fly, more likely I just had an itch. Now after two days of pottery making, I think my clothes are telling me to just keep on going. This is a good time for us to make up the pottery that we will have on hand when company visits and wants to paint (glaze) pottery throughout the summer.

We were visiting friends the other day, talking about their dahlia garden and how they have to work all year on taking care of the tubbers. I didn’t realize all the time it took during the year, in preparation for those beautiful blooms. I dug mine up this year, washed them off, dried them and placed them in wood chip for storage. Thought I was done till spring. Well we shall see if they survive or not.

Please, if you love me, love my children—all of them,
especially the ones that challenge your traditions.

One morning when we awoke,
our mother yelled up to us in a frantic tone to get up. My sister Dana and I jumped out of bed, anticipating a snow-day

It’s a new dawn
I wish you happiness
It’s Christmas morn

So here’s to peace and joy
For every girl and boy

DeerLake Weekly Letter, Where's the Line to see Jesus.

So many fun Christmas shows to watch this time of year. All you need is at least one friend to share some holiday cheer.   This weekend is the Flathead Valley, Christmas at Our House dinner. The Montana Army National Guard puts together a Christmas dinner, free for the community. With a donation of a can of food, you can enjoy the day out and enjoy a great meal.

Over 6 months ago I started with a hernia problem. My thought back then was, seems like a common problem that is most likely an easy fix. I waited a month or so to see if it would maybe stop bothering me. It only got worse. Went to a nearby doctor that does hernia repairs. Heck, this is going to be no big deal, I thought. I just figured that all the doctors would probably fix hernias the same way. No need for a second opinion, (so I thought). A couple weeks later I go in for the hernia surgery. Ouch! After a week the pain eased-up a bit, however I’m still feeling like there’s a hole, the same hole (hernia). Unbelieveable, the hole was smaller but still there. Another week goes by, I go back to see the surgeon, He confirms, indeed you still have a hernia, “the mesh must have moved or somehow it slipped by the mesh”. Another two months go by, hernia is getting worse again, I did not want to go in for another surgery. So my advise to you is, get a second opinion and find out all your options. Another good idea, get a few referrals as to which doctor is thought to be among the best. To finish my story, I did get a different doctor to patch me up. Feeling nearly perfect now, ready for plenty of Christmas fun.

DeerLake Weekly Letter, Say Merry Christmas and buy Local.

About 21 days till Christmas, Oh My!!!

I have always been a sucker for the whole holiday season stuff. I love the Carols, all the holiday parties, the glitter and the joy that seems to surround everyone this time of year. I was looking for a little music to decorate-the-tree-by; and to my surprise when exploring Pandora, I found that you can make your own channel by selecting one artist or group. When choosing the holiday album of Alabama, all the other music that played was similar in nature. Meaning all great Christmas music, how easy is that!

Whatever your plans are for this weekend, first take a deep cleansing breath and relax. Step back from the rush of the holidays and enjoy.

As our world grows colder and darker during the winter months, why not do the right thing and light at least one candle in someone’s life each day. Just by the looks on their faces, you will see how it makes the darkness flee. A little bit of friendly light is all we really need.  Spread some early Christmas joy. I have heard that it only takes 14 muscles to smile and 72 muscles to frown.
So give the world a great big Christmas SMILE.

The custom of giving to the needy was one of the legendary traditions of Boxing Day, which is celebrated the first weekday after Christmas in many countries. On Boxing Day, employers gave their servants, boxes of food and other necessities, and public workers such as mailmen were remembered by the people they served. The giving of gifts is a wonderful expression of the love and goodwill that surrounds the Christmas season. Ultimately, gift giving at Christmas should be done in remembrance of the greatest gift of all — Jesus Christ the Son, the gift of the Father.

Sing along, Say Merry Christmas. (and Video)
Once again, Christmas will become…what it was…and what it was always meant to be, a Celebration of Christ’s Birth!

who appeared to them in the desert, to follow a bright star in the east and they would come to the birthplace of the Jewish Messiah.
